Hooray, time for a long weekend! I just finished Heartwood by Amity Gaige, which was quite good. It was billed as a thriller, but I think of it as an outdoor adventure story featuring a lost hiker and several secondary characters who seek the outdoors for various reasons. It’s on people’s best of 2025 lists and I get it although it’s not tippy top of that list for me.
I have my Kindle in airplane mode and the next batch of books is due in four days. Before then, I am going to try to read Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid and/or The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon. The latter I’ve checked out and haven’t read about four times now. Do you have recommendations on which one is better?
After I finish one or both of the books, I need to read Buckeye for book club and additional amazing titles that are on my Kindle currently. I’m most excited about Independent People by Laxness and Culpability by Holsinger.
I also have an advanced copy of a popular philosophy book that I’d like to review. Basically, there’s a great (long) weekend in store!
I really liked Heartwood and finished it earlier this month!
Atmosphere was a DNF for me, but I know many people loved it. The Frozen River was good, not great. But I’m glad I read it and I can see why it was so popular.
I just finished (and enjoyed) What Kind of Paradise.
What Kind of Paradise will be next after Culpability. I finished both Atmosphere and Frozen River. Both were decent.
