June’s highlight was our 11th anniversary! We went out for a nice dinner at Flea Street, where the food and drink are delicious. SMS bought me beautiful flowers, which was a great surprise. We’re more “meaningful messages on cards” people than gift people, which is so much less stressful. I don’t know how gift couples do it…you have the holidays, birthdays, and anniversary?! That’s a lot. So, it’s nice not to have the stress. On occasion, one or the other will get a gift because it’s perfect, but it’s like a nice intermittent surprise.

Our wedding was so much fun. I want to have a party in the same venue at some point in my life. I will have to get more San Diego friends though. I think people are more willing to travel for a wedding than a random party. But it will be a good party, so maybe that will be tempting…

The first weekend of the month, SMS and I headed to Tiberon for the Chief’s Roast, held in honor of the graduating chief residents. We went to Hook prior to the party and had delicious fish and chips and a wonderful salad. 10/10. The party was similarly excellent. The roast video was so good. It was a Barbie movie knock-off and made fun of each of the five chief residents so well without being mean. Towards the end, there was a version of “I’m Just Ken” making fun of a fairly charismatic skull base surgeon that was epic. The resident who sang the song has an excellent voice (prior professional, I think) and it was an exceptional send-up.

I completed my second-to-last PRT with the Navy Reserves. I quasi-crashed dieted the week of the weigh-in to make sure I made it. Yay? What’s funny about this is telling people at my real work about weigh-ins, which blows their mind.

The next weekend, I undid all this hard work with a caviar board spread made by my good friend Beth. This was accompanied by champagne. A lot of champagne. Later, Beth asked SMS to bring down some chardonnay. This was completely unnecessary. After the pool afternoon, I went upstairs and went to bed for 12 hours. As SMS not-admiringly said, “I think you slept through the hangover.”

SMS and I took a walking tour through SF one weekend day in June. We took the train to 22nd St, walked around Potrero Hill, down towards the Chase Center, and along the water to the Ferry Building. We went to the elevated park within the Salesforce Tower complex and listened to a Bluegrass concert for a bit. Then we rented bikes and went to Jax Vineyards tasting room before finally heading home. It was a long day- we were tired at the end! But it was so much fun and I want to do more local exploring, especially in the city. At some point, I would like to do the Crosstown Trail, but maybe that is a little long? I mean, we did do the Yamathon in the past so maybe we could do it. But would it be fun?
Random ending bits…(I mean the whole post is sort of random, but hold on to your hats, it’s about to get worse)

Things seen on Instagram this month: A very cute cake featuring Nanalan and the world’s ugliest top that would be unflattering on pretty much any normal, non-model person. Who would buy?!?!

On the left, I am at work, sitting on the base of a $1million robot. On the right is a cat named Oreo, who used to be our neighbor before we moved. But since I was nearby, I saw Oreo. Or as the kids used to scream, “OOOOOORRRRRREEEEOOOOO!!!!!”

Flea St dirty martini. Was delicious.
I’m taking notes, because we are not taking a vacation this year. We might do a staycation this fall, and SF is always a great location for that. But we generally end up doing the same things, so it would be fun to do something different I think. Happy (belated) anniversary! We don’t usually do gifts either. Our first anniversary, my husband skipped from traditional 1st anniversary gift (paper) to 50th (gold) and gave me a gold necklace. Since then we generally ignore. 🙂
Ooooo, I like his style! I love jewelry although I tend to window-shop more than I buy. But that’s because I window-shop super high-end jewelry so I admire the artistry in pictures, rather than around my neck 🙂 Yes, I think we’re doing stay-cationy things this year although I’m eyeing a work trip to Prague…let’s see if I can swing it 🙂
