Thanksgiving rundown

What a great Thursday! lol- Happy Thanksgiving! I finished Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Decent. I am impressed by TJR’s ability to write compellingly readable books, even if I don’t love them. Joan was a little too pure, her sister way too narcissistic witch-with-a-b, but other side characters such as Vanessa and Griff were pretty awesome. I recommend the book, but not strongly.

After I finished, SMS and I walked the Stanford Dish. Then we headed home to cook for Thanksgiving.

While I was cooking, I talked to my parents ❤️❤️. I also spoke with a former research collaborator whom I speak with each Thanksgiving.

SMS made delicious cast iron cornbread. Yum! He also made popcorn that was good but over-buttered. It was still delicious, but he plans to use less in the future.

I made the NYT potato and leek gratin by Melissa Clark. 5 well-deserved stars. Very popular at dinner. We also brought an apple pie (smitten kitchen recipe) that was quite excellent. I forgot the tapioca flour, but it seemed to be ok. I also used the SK buttery pie crust recipe, which was exquisite.

We also brought Hall wines: a Bergfeld cab and two bottles of their new champagne which were excellent. Super delicious. I might even order more if the Black Friday sale is still good. I’m on a huge champagne kick lately and loving it!
