December hijinks, San Diego

Quintessential San Diego

SMS and I went to San Diego the second weekend in December for his sister and brother-in-law’s annual Christmas party. It had been a little while since we had been in San Diego. We had a great time!

We arrived on Friday, which was a little rough after a full workweek and rush hour traffic to the airport, but it was worth waking up in San Diego Saturday morning. We had breakfast at “Rip’s Cafe” (my FIL’s kitchen), which was excellent as always.

Saturday afternoon, I met up with a friend. We went to Viewpoint Brewing, which is a stalwart fave of ours. She used her husband’s mug. She knew the name was Lord of the Rings-related and when we looked up the name of Bullroarer Took, we learned it’s the tall hobbit. Which tracks as her husband is rather tall.

SMS and his parents hung out and went to Balboa Park. We met up and headed out to the party, where we mingled a little bit but also just hung out with each other and a family that is close with my in-laws.

Sunday was restful. We went out to Blue Water Seafood, where I got the most delicious (and large!) tacos- a scallop and a fish taco. Highly recommend! We headed out that afternoon after a wonderful weekend. We’re glad we’re not doing the flight every weekend like when we were long-distance, but the occasional weekend trip is a delight!

    1. Yes! I think we will do a few more this year: San Diego, Houston, Chicago, Fayetteville, and Minneapolis. These may not all happen but it’s time for New Year’s dreaming!
