I’m so excited! I decided that the blog needed a little refresh since I’m guessing the “2016” WordPress theme I used was that old. While I’m not afraid to be made fun of for being dated, I thought it would be nice to glow up. I love this Cube Boss theme that I found. It’s free through wordpress.com.
I did spend a little bit of money to buy an embedded custom map for the “Destinations” page. I’m a little sad I couldn’t figure out my free option from the mid-2010s but considering that so many things have switched to subscription model, maybe it’s gone forever. I certainly looked hard without success. I have a fair bit of work ahead of me to add individual post links but I think it will be worth it!
Finally, I have used AI to generate code! And it worked! Well, some didn’t. But new CSS code that works allows me to show the homepage posts with header images that are hidden when the individual post is clicked. Although this sounds very fancy, the code it one line long. And I do not think I would have figured it out for a very long time if I were working on my own. First the smartphone, now AI. How many accessory brains do I need?!
Also, the above image is an AI generated image of a star being born. I am confused why it doesn’t show my before and after of my blog but you know, built-in bias and all that.
It looks very nice! I have heard about generating code with AI but have never tried it myself. My blog is from 2006 and so much of it was old that it stopped feeding properly and I had to take almost all of the old code off a couple of years ago. I have not gotten up the motivation to rework the entire thing, as Blogger is not really updating anything and I don’t feel like switching to something else.
Thanks! I transitioned from Blogger to WordPress ~2016. It was a bit of a mess since I didn’t understand the difference between WordPress.org and wordpress.com. The exporting was pretty straghtforward but I get it…it’s still work!
As for large language models, I’m really liking Gemini from Google. ChatGPT is ok, but more limited functionality (at least in the basic package). I’ve been offered two months free with Gemini Plus- TBD.
Oh generating code with AI, well that might be a game changer (because I’ve fiddled with code forever!).
