What follows is a very poorly photo-documented Staycation but I wanted to write out what we did with my parents when they visited over President’s weekend. As a pre-game, SMS and I drank the 2018 Air Show cab that was generously given to us by a friend just because she knew we’d like it. She was right. It’s delicious and I want more. We had half one night with pizza and another night with filet mignon (Valentine’s!). Apparently, 2018 was a great year for Napa wine so now I have another expensive item on my needs wants list.

I picked my parents up at SFO on Friday. I had an impressive cheese plate (pre-sliced cheddar and triscuits left over from my friend’s stay, haha). On Saturday, we went to the Cantor Arts Center, which was a bit of a bust. My parents were not as impressed with the art as last time and the Golden Spike did not enthrall my Dad. That evening, we went to Taverna in Palo Alto, which was a much bigger hit. My parents met in Greece, love to visit Greece, and love Greek food. We had two different Greek waiters, had delicious food (the lamb chops, delish!), and drank some good wine.
On Sunday, we went to Testarossa winery, which was another fantastic experience. The grounds are beautiful, with a forest vibe and lots of moss. Since it had been raining, it was particularly green. We were seated in a small side tent from the main tasting area, which was perfect since it was quieter. The wine was good and we had the best time. My parents also met Beth, our friend who was about to go to Hawaii with us since SMS wasn’t able to go. Beth is amazing and we had such a fun afternoon. We had white chicken chili for dinner that night, which was a good dinner for a rainy day.

The next day, we were off to Hawaii!
Oh thank god that A Little Life came off of your mom’s list, that one was just SO MUCH SUFFERING. I hated it.
I used to be blog/Facebook friends with the author of ‘Well Behaved Wives’, way back when. She died a few days ago after a terrible struggle with Parkinson’s. Ugh. Anyway, I read it recently and enjoyed it.
Your staycation sounds LOVELY, but likely not as lovely as HAWAII! I hope you had a great time.
Oh yeah, that one character of the four who just couldn’t.catch.a.break. At about page 500 after another terrible thing, I said out loud, “You have got to be ###-ing me.” But the book was excellent, it’s just not one that I widely recommend.
I did not love Little Life either! However, I did love Lessons in Chemistry, Remarkably Bright Creatures and The Rose Code (or anything by Kate Quinn). I am not a huge Colleen Hoover fan; I can’t remember what Verity was about but I think I struggled to finish it and the DNFed the next one, November 9, which I just could not stomach. Sorry if you love her!
I love the mini-reviews. I loved Lessons in Chem, thought RBC was good but not great, and I’m currently reading the Rose Code. I’m with you on Hoover. I may have read Verity or skipped once I read the synopsis.
