I love leap years! I think having a 29th in the month of February is so cool. Maybe because I love the idea of adding time and random days? Maybe it’s the idea of catching up with the sun? Or maybe it’s just because? Anyway, February was a good month with social events and a trip to HAWAII!

We had a double date night in Palo Alto with my work BFF and her husband. We went to Taverna. The food is delicious. Ambiance-wise, they have a new back room which is fine but I prefer the front room in terms of a smaller, slightly cozier feel. We ordered a lot of food to share, including “the lamb with a bone in it.”

Then we went to a piano bar night at Stanford. We were late and earned an usher’s glare. I didn’t realize, but it was more of a concert session than a true piano bar, which in my limited experience is way more casual. Silly me, Stanford doesn’t do casual, I guess. The pianist was really talented. The music was exclusively show tunes and it was a very big theater kid energy type of vibe. It was fun, but I’m still on a search for a Billy Joel Piano Man here in the Bay Area.

We watched the Super Bowl. First half out in the large courtyard and second half inside the apartment complex. Great game, says this championship game- only fan. There were some sad people at work the next day, for sure.

I made nachos and found a meme that I thought hit the nail on the head for the halftime show. Be quiet, young whipper snappers!

The following weekend was my parents visit, followed by a trip to Hawaii. It was delightful. More mellow than other trips and I think I’ve found the magic in just sitting at the beach. More to come in a separate post.
And that was the month! I came back and promptly had a derm appt. Not the best timing but I had been careful to avoid a sunburn in Hawaii so no shame. I also went to the dentist and was told that my teeth look fine just with water pik use instead of floss, even though it was clearly costing my dentist a lot to say it. He advocates for floss and the ‘pik, which seems a little excessive especially since one works. But legitimately, I had very little staining with just the ‘pik use so I think I may continue. I do floss on trips though, although Jose the hygeinist enthusiastically recommended his travel size one. He says he gives up space in his luggage just so he can bring it. I’m not that into it…yet.
Is that a Deborah Butterfield sculpture up top? I saw a similar one at the Meijer Gardens in Michigan and was just curious. I can’t believe I’m the kind of person who is starting to recognize artists by their works!

Yes! I think her work is so cool! I’m on the hunt for them because I think she’s made a lot and she may be local to the Bay Area? So far, I’ve seen them in the Cantor Arts Center (Stanford), Stanford hospital grounds, former Sunset magazine complex, and…shoot, there’s one more that I’m blanking on right now.
