Office Space

Appropriate reactions to my face in this photo would include “Now there’s a choice for a photo” and “Now that’s attractive!” The story behind it is we were photo-texting Günter’s partner to heckle him about not showing up to dinner. By the way, totally recommend Jalebi St!

Is it ok to be kind of over daily posting? Haha, I think I need to prep a few posts in advance. I keep this blog mainly for travel documentation purposes. It’s not really a daily update or feelings kind of blog. But I do think generating more travel content is a good idea so I’ll work on some stuff over the weekend. It can just be a bit much on a weeknight.

The clinic staff did a Clifton Strength assessment today. One of the nurses said one of her strengths was being a bully, which honestly sort of tracks so I didn’t say anything. But apparently, she was joking. Lol. That makes sense- those types of tests are usually pretty positive, even if they’re talking about possible double-edged sword traits like “aggression,” for example.

These assessments are supposed to improve communication among various team members since the clinic scored low on the workplace attitudes survey earlier in the year. Which then causes administrators to spend a lot of time, energy, and effort to try to team-build. Not to be a negative Nancy (but) BUT it’s not going to work. The team is small and there are people who don’t like each other so they take it out on the survey. I can guarantee you that people will still complain about how work isn’t fun and people are mean. Address that, Clifton!

I am lucky in that the MDs work at multiple sites so we’re not really involved in site politics. My specialty’s team is awesome, even with a bully nurse (kidding!). I actually think everyone who works at the clinic is pretty reasonable. There are a few people whom I don’t know as well but trust me, I know who the survey troublemakers are. Or, more accurately, I can make a really solid guess.

Tomorrow, SMS and I are going to a fancy wine tasting event that a friend organized with a local sommelier. I think it will be a lot of fun! I hope he gives an overview of the basics. I never know where in the mouth I’m supposed to feel the effect of tannins, acid, ALCOHOL. The palate, the cheeks. Hopefully, mysteries will be explained tomorrow!

  1. Daily posting is rough, daily reading is even more rough. I enjoy it, but it’s a lot.

    Your picture is cute.

My company put out a survey recently and I have not had a raise in 4 years but did not want to bitch about it because people are getting laid off and everything must be done to make shareholders happy, but gah, prices have gone up in the last 4 years so I’m always losing ground. I worry that they will let me go if I say something bad. I know, it’s anonymous, but if you read the fine print they say, ‘we do not provide specific information to the company unless they ask for it’ which did not inspire any confidence in me.

Yours is interesting, and yeah, know your lane survey company…hard to improve morale when people don’t like each other.

  2. I’ve done the Clifton Strength assessment recently through a mentorship program and it was interesting. Definitely hit a few nails on the head (but in other regards not so much). I found the questions sometimes hard to answer without more clarification.
