Making Lists

I’m hanging out in the OR, waiting for the recovery room to open up a spot for my patient. It’s boring and I’m kind of cold- this OR is freezing. The warm blanket warmer is nearby but since I’m currently ok, I will write a list of various TTDs (Things to Do) as the holiday season (!!!) approaches:

  1. Think about festive fun at Filoli and get back to a friend who wants to do something at the Four Seasons
  2. Figure out holiday cards
  3. Think about Christmas presents for nieces and nephews. I did pretty well last year with cute wrapping paper and good gift selections. One gift was a little young for one recipient but other than that, pretty good!
  4. Buy gift cards for clinic and OR scheduling teams
  5. Think about work and fun travel plans for next year. I’m starting at a very low PTO balance so I need to be strategic. Also, need to make sure all appropriate clinic dates are blocked. This is very hard to do last minute unless there’s a really good, family emergency-level reason

Ok, that’s a start! Recovery room called so time to get to work before heading out to dinner at Jalebi St .

  1. Just reading this made me want to cry. I also have to figure out holiday cards, gifts, and travel plans, but I don’t want to. Why is being an adult so hard and full of not fun things?

    1. Oh no! That was not the intent 🙂 Most of these things are on the fun-ish side for me- I love thinking about travel and vacation. The stress comes if I forget and then I’m in a scheduling pickle.

  2. Don’t worry- reading this filled me with happy anticipation (so you’re not making everyone cry). Yes, the holidays can be a lot, but that’s why we should start now. I bought my holiday cards last January on sale, and one of my goals for November is to get all the envelopes addressed.
I do have a short trip planned for January, and you just reminded me to request the time off work.

  3. I am happy for other people to be thinking about Christmas, but I am not yet at that stage! I do love thinking about travel, though, and last weekend we booked our flights and travel for a short trip in March.

  4. Sometimes I’m on the ball and buy my Christmas Cards after Christmas for the next year, but last year I was not. I bought mine recently though, so I’m ready now. Whew. No travel plans yet, but I’m dreaming of maybe Europe next year (first choice, France! Even though my last two trips to Europe have both been to France. BUT I love it so much.

  5. I am resisting with all my might the fact that the holidays are rushing toward us. Ugh! We are also trying to solidify some travel plans. Fun challenge, but still a challenge.

  6. I’d say you used your time well and get into the Christmas planning. I don’t even want to think about it yet (although I usually LOVE Christmas) but it’s all stressing me out.
