The holiday season has begun! Now, it may look like my big head is blocking the “J” in “OY,” but this is actually the OY/YO sculpture by Deborah Kass outside of the Stanford Cantor Arts Center. SMS and I had a mellow Sunday where we went grocery shopping, I went to Pilates without my usual friends :(, and then we went to the art museum for a short visit. The Edmonia Lewis and Shahzia Sikander exhibits were particular highlights. And I saw the Golden Spike of course; an oldie but a goodie.

Above are two highlights from the Shahzia Sikander exhibit.

I’m not the biggest fan of raisins but clearly, my level of passion is outclassed by this artist, Ester Hernandez.

And finally, the golden spike!

This week felt fairly social. On Friday, I went to the Apres Village with two of my friends. It was very Christmas-y and cute! We had a great time and we were all so full when we left. Oooof, it was more food (read: more cheese) then we were prepared to handle. But no regrets!

That same night, our apartment complex held a party. SMS went earlier, we overlapped a bit, and then I stayed until the end. This paid off in the ice luge, which I think was set up backwards, was put into use. Excellent.

On Saturday, Beth had her annual ladies’ brunch, which was so much fun. The food spread was amazing and it was a fun afternoon of delicious food and champagne.

Followed by mid-afternoon espresso martinis. Beth, for sure, makes the best espresso martinis I’ve ever had. She got really into it about a year ago and did major deep dives to figure out the best recipe, ingredients, etc. Her hard work paid off. I was also a good dog aunt and let Hank have a sniff, but not a sip!

Speaking of Hank, he was the perfect doggie gentleman in letting several women invade his space and distract his human Mom.
Honestly, this looks like a pretty much picture-perfect weekend! Cozy, festive vibes. Good friends. Delicious food. <3
This is very true! It was wonderful. And next weekend is San Diego to celebrate with in-laws!
Ooh I love espresso martinis!
Me too! And this recipe is exquisite.
I’ve never had an espresso martini, but it looks delicious. The art is beautiful! I was going to say that I wish I were invited to a ladies brunch, and then I realized I was, and I declined the invite. So there’s that. It was at my MILs, and she’s the only person there that I would have known, so I don’t regret my decision.
The museum was beautiful and a perfect time of day, lighting wise. Maybe Beth’s recipe can make a special appearance on the blog. But then maybe I would have them too often. Choices!
I like mingling at parties but if it feels like everyone else knows each other, that could be tough.
