May was an exceptional month! So many great things happen that I’m kind of wistful/down that it’s all over. But at the same time, of course I’m so glad everything happened so you know…time to wrap-up!
Everything in May was pretty awesome except my ability to keep up with blogging (nope!) and consistent with my exercise (I strained my calf!). I have plans for more detailed trip posts but for an overview, what exactly went down?

First, the baptism weekend which I previously posted about.
That next week, I met up with some ladies from book club for a nice dinner at Selby’s with the local author of a prior pick.
That weekend, SMS and I went out with a San Diego friend on Friday night. Saturday night, I went to pilates followed by a field trip into the city for dinner with a colleague and his family. We took CalTrain in and the Muni across the city, which took awhile! On the way back, we took a Waymo to the train station, which was very busy because the SF Giants game was 1-13 not in favor of the Giants so a lot of “fans” had left. I was on a crusade against line-cutters and was successful a few times!
The next Thursday, we had a nice book club gathering. It was on the small side, which was nice. It is also nice to be in a book club that is not usually struggling for people. This current one was in a bit of a pickle several months ago but now it’s thriving.

That weekend, I had a mellow first half hanging out with SMS followed by a Sunday morning flight TO JAPAN!! Yes, I know! I totally owe this blog multiple posts and it will happen. I will backdate and confuse my eight followers feeds but it will be worth it! Promise!

The reason I was in Japan was for a conference. And I added vacation days, naturally! I had to keep it within a week though, otherwise work wouldn’t pay for the ticket. Fair…I guess (lol).

May 25 was the longest day of my life as I hiked from Kita-Kamakura to Kamakura, taking a picture with the big Buddha (classic!). Then, I went to Yokohama, sped shopped some food items, took the train to Haneda, and flew back to SFO and landed…at 950 a.m. And my day started again! I took a nap in preparation for our friend Beth’s birthday party. The party was a lovely backyard/kitchen party featuring sushi, champagne, and caviar. Delightfully bougie for my friend with the best taste!
The next day, I was tired. Jet lag? Probably. A lit bit of hangover? Probably.
I spent the week working and recovering from jet lag, which wasn’t too terrible.

Then it was off to San Diego for my Navy retirement party and a ton of family time, which was absolutely amazing. The party was at Brockton Villa on Saturday night and was incredibly special. I feel incredibly lucky and my Navy time (active duty and reserves) is now complete.* Hooray!
*So, there is a tiny paperwork snafu but it’s getting worked out. Then I will throw another party, lol. Or at least drink more champagne.
Congratulations on your retirement from the Navy! Beautiful photos.
