Making a blog map to organize posts

You guys! There’s still a fair bit of work to do, but I’m well on my to making an updated travel map for my blog. Currently, my “Destinations” page is woefully underpopulated. I’m really excited to improve my blog. It did not start auspiciously. I started with perplexity.ai and realized that although I’m getting double billed, I no longer have Pro Account access. So, sent an email off to the service department and “Sammy” (guarantee you that it’s an AI bot) has graciously forwarded my email to the billing department. Thanks Sammy!

I activated my educator account, which gives me 12 months free. If you would like to use Perplexity.ai and are an educator or student, use my code! I think we both get an additional free month. I really like Perplexity because it cites its sources, has a few different modes, and allows you to select which large language model (LLM) to use.

So, I went into “Project” mode and the first results were not promising…

Then, in the text of the generated report that listed other options, I learned about flourish.studio. This was a little better, but still required a lot of manual work. In addition, my latitudes and longitudes were correct but ending up in the wrong country. For example, Seven Bridges (+1) hike, my highest performing posts, was in China rather than San Diego.

But then, oh my goodness, AI came through. I asked for a complete script in Leaflet.js and look what perplexity.ai delivered-

This is amazing!! There’s still a lot of work since it only used blog post examples and I will need to create a .csv, but this is such an incredible start! Perplexity doesn’t have web crawl capabilities so it doesn’t look like I can automate but I’m going to work on it some more this weekend. I may not finish, but this is such a great start!

    1. I am sucked into this project- currently populating the Google Sheets .csv that creates the city points. I’ll focus on my German travels next 🙂 (somewhat limited and a few places are before blog times).
