Local bars

I’ve been light on the photos lately, but here’s one from last week and it will drive the theme of today’s post, local bars.

Alpine Inn

The photo is from the interior of the Alpine Inn. We’ve been here a few times over the years, but we’ve always sat outside at one of their picnic tables or hightops. It’s a great post-hike place since we normally hike in the local “mountains,” but SMS really does not like the parking lot headache that often occurs during peak hours. So, most of our hikes end with him vetoing the Alpine Inn and me pouting. Lol, not really…but sometimes? We went on Veteran’s Day before a short hike at Arastradero. He got a BLT, which was so delicious but also very substantial. I got a bowl of chili that was also quite dense. We had meant to eat a little lighter since we were going to friends’ house for a delicious dinner but oops. We just had two heavier meals that day.

Dutch Goose

Another place we’ve been to over the years, but a little more recently since we have friends who like to watch games there sometimes. I was just there last weekend for the Williams-Amherst football game. Great beer selection and their pizza is greasy deliciousness.

Clark’s Oyster Bar

Delicious but expensive, the theme at many Menlo Park establishments. I love oysters, but feeling pretty happy with my recent France experience of 1-3 Euro oysters at multiple stops so the Clarks prices seem even worse than usual. Their happy hour is good, but a little early for me. I have met friends there a few times, since they can show up right at 5 and snag a spot.

Flea Street

Love this place, although I’ve only gone three times with SMS as a fancy occasions dinner. I’ve wanted to go to the bar, which is small and super cute, for a drink and dessert. The desserts menu is delicious but we’ve always been too stuffed to get any. So, this is on my to-do list: drinks and dessert!

Bar Loretta

Do not recommend. They are shady with their billing and looking at the reviews, my group wasn’t the only one that experienced this. Mostly good reviews, but once was enough for me.

Upcoming wine bars…

There’s a wine bar opening soon on Santa Cruz so that will be exciting to try!
